Public transport

Brussels has a very dense public transport network. The main provider within Brussels is STIB (busses, trams, Metro), the other service De Lijn serves mostly Dutch-speaking surrounding communes. Both have their own apps, STIB also supports https://www.floya.brussels/

Bus lines in our quarter (some rerouted because of major works at Place Schuman) include:

  • 12 Airport Express from Place/Gare Luxembourg, via Schuman
  • 29 to Brouckère, City center, municipal administration, …
  • 60 long route down to Uccle suburb
  • 61 Gare du Nord
  • 63 Gare Centrale
  • 64 via Place du Luxembourg (European Parliament) to Porte de Namur (Toison d’Or; lively Ixelles, cinemas, shops etc. and expensive shopping area Avenue Louise nearby).

…and 21 ;24 ;28 ;36 ;54 ;56 ;59 ;69 ;79…

Careful: Buses may not only be late, but they may also leave a few minutes ahead of schedule…

  • Metro lines 1 and 6 cross our area west/east, stopping at Maelbeek, Schuman, etc.

Tickets can be bought online from STIB (MoBIB), at red vending machines at major bus stops or offices in Metro stations, many lines also have blue payment card terminals, but there you can only buy one virtual ticket per card. The airport line leaves from nearby Rond-Point Schuman, SNCB trains from Schuman are also a good option to go to the airport, the center, or to other neighbourhoods.

Brussels Schuman is an impressive transport hob with two train lines, two Metro lines and a four-lane road competing for underground space. Trains go to other Brussels railway stations and beyond, including Brussels airport Zaventem and many regional cities. International trains leave from main station Gare du Midi (Zuid), a few also from Gare du Nord.
